Offering a smooth commute to people travelling from Delhi or Haryana to Jaipur, the 8-lane Gurugram-Dausa stretch of the upcoming Delhi-Mumbai expressway will be operational from November 2022. It is expected to reduce the travel time between Delhi and Jaipur to just two and a half hours. Earlier, travelling from Delhi to Jaipur would consume up to five hours.
Cover 260 kilometers in just 3 hours
The project was expected to begin operations back in November 2021. However, due to the COVID pandemic, the progress on the project was delayed. Considering the increase in travelers during the season, NHAI has also proposed a 67 kilometer long 6-lane greenfield National Highway from Bandikui on the expressway to Jaipur Ring Road.
At present, travellers heading to Jaipur from Delhi will have to take the Dausa exit and then take a 4-lane highway connecting Jaipur. The 260 km long stretch is access-controlled, allowing a maximum vehicular speed of 120 kmph. At present, the elevated road from Rajiv Chowk to Sohna is operational, reducing the journey time to just 15 minutes from 1 hour.
Additionally, the work towards connecting road links at both the exits on DND, Delhi and Jewar, Jaipur are under construction. Once the DND-Sohna link is operational, commuters from the eastern and southern parts of Delhi can directly join the expressway, surpassing Rajiv Chowk.
What you need to know about Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
The Gurugram-Dausa stretch of the 1,352 km long Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be the first operational stretch of the country’s longest expressway. The project aims at reducing the travel time from Delhi to Mumbai to just 12 hours from 24 hours. Additionally, it will also benefit the logistics sector, reducing travel cost and time.
As per the reports, the NHAI, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, will also set up various EV charging and battery-swapping stations along the expressway.
The 1,352 kilometer long expressway also includes three spurs to DND in Delhi, greenfield connectivity to Jewar Airport and JNPT Port (near Mumbai). This entire project is expected to be operational by December 2024.
