Goa's 2nd COVID-19 hospital becomes operational as cases surge past 10,000 mark

Given a sharp spike in coronavirus cases in the state, Goa's second COVID-19 hospital has now become operational. Thus far, this hospital has already admitted 27 patients and 4 private infirmaries have also agreed to take in covid patients in Goa. This new facility is an existing sub-district hospital and is located in Ponda, South Goa. It has a capacity of more than 400 beds.

10,494 COVID-19 patients in Goa; 3,491 cases stand active

Overall, 10,494 confirmed cases have been documented in Goa out of which, 3,491 are standing as active right now. Goa has also chronicled 91 fatalities, owing to this contagious virus. In order to raise funds, the state government has even collaborated with a prominent event management company, for hosting an online charity music show.

On the issue of false claims related to the finances granted by the Centre, the CM of Goa stated, "Such fake news, which is circulated by people with perverted minds only creates confusion. We have got only 6-Cr from the Centre as of now. We are asking for more because of the number of cases which are coming to the fore in the state."

The CM further added that COVID-19 cases have been showing up in Goa because of the high testing practises in the state. "We are conducting the highest amount of testing in the country at 90,000 persons per million. Delhi is second with 65,000 per million."
