The passion for modifying and artify-ing is an expensive but creative hobby that has been taken up a notch by an artist in Indore. Sundar Gurjar has transformed an old Ambassador into an Objet d’art with the help of over a dozen of scrap materials. After months of dedication, the artist finally turned his obsession into a fine example of creativity and imagination with the aim to save this antique piece of machinery.
An artistic step into the future

Generations in India have known the Ambassador to be the toughest and the strongest in the market. Not only in India but in other South Asian countries as well, people have admired the beast. The legend has long gone from the market in India and in an attempt to revive the classic piece of machinery, a local car mechanic used about 700 Kg of nuts and 400 Kg of vehicle chains and other scrap material.
The artist informed, “This ambassador car model has been discontinued, to save it I thought of doing something new. Around 700 kilograms of nuts have been used in the car. 400-kilogram vehicle chain and other parts are pasted on this car with adhesive. The best part is that it is mostly made out of scrap.”

As can be seen in the pictures, the car is fully loaded with scrap material like chains, bolts & nuts and metal disks, complementing its unique identity. The outer body is mostly decorated with iron debris and the interior has been decorated with carvings and other scrap material. Sundar Gurjar also added, “I did fine art along with mural art, I keep on creating new artistic things.”
Indore has been an exemplary inspiration for art and the artists in India. Earlier in February, another artist from Indore, Sunil Vyas showcased his talent by creating art in the likeness of famous personalities entirely out of waste material. From converting the city’s street walls into a canvas of artistic beauty to converting junk into a piece of art, Indore’s artists never fail to impress when it comes to repurposing and reusing.
