As per local tales, it is believed that in order to safeguard a Ganesh statue from Aurangzeb, the idol was hidden in a well. Later, it was discovered by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar from the Holkar Dynasty of the Maratha Empire in 1735, who established this prestigious temple. With numerous historic and religious beliefs linked to it, the Khajrana temple has become one of the most visited temples of Indore.

From a small hut to a vast space, the temple has developed over the years to become the most revered shrine in the city. Some walls of the sanctum sanctorum are made of silver, depicting a string of things related to religion. Interestingly, the eyes of the idol placed here are made of diamonds, donated by a businessman from the city.

Now, the temple has been brought to the comfort of your homes with the launch of an official website portal. Anyone can get a virtual glimpse of the live prayer sessions, listen to bhajans, learn about the rich history of the temple, donate or go through the timeline of activities at this platform.

Dialysis centre at Khajrana Temple- where divinity meets aid!

Apart from being a place of worship, the temple complex also houses the Shri Vaishnav Diagnostic and Kidney Centre, a dialysis centre. This welfare scheme was started in 2015 by Shri Vaishnav Educational and Charitable Trust, based on the Public-Private Partnership model. As per reports, the dialysis centre has started providing free dialysis treatment to all under the Ayushman Bharat Yojna from August 15 this year. Earlier, a sum of ₹400 was charged for this process.

Most people visit the temple on Wednesdays and Sundays usually, while main festivities take place during August and September when ostentatious celebrations of the Vinayak Chathurthi are observed. If you happen to trudge out here, do not forget to visit the nearby dargah, which further amplifies the religious significance of this place.

Location: Khajrana Rd, Ganeshpuri Colony, Khajrana, Indore.
