The developmental works of DRDO COVID Hospital at Awadh Shilpgram in Lucknow, has progressed in full momentum and it now stands in the final stage of completion. On Wednesday, this 350-bed provisional facility welcomed ventilators. These are currently being installed to finish the principal construction rapidly, in a week’s time. Post this, the hospital will start admitting COVID patients, read reports.
Work in full swing at Awadh Shilpgram
In a bid to cement the cracks in the city’s crumbling health infrastructure, the Defence Research and Development Organisation is setting up a temporary COVID hospital at Lucknow’s Awadh Shilpgram. This facility will have about 350 beds, including 150 ICU beds. Reports have also highlighted that about 40 to 50 beds of this centre will fall under a reservation scheme and will be made available to special cases only.
Besides the raw infrastructure, the hospital has also established its own oxygen plant. At present, it is laying down the groundwork to install pipes that will transport oxygen from the unit to the patient beds. This particular feature will ensure that patients here are not struggling to arrange for oxygen from alternative sources.
In addition to oxygen support beds, ventilator beds and a 24/7 ambulance service have been stationed here, for the benefit of the patients. The hospital will also accommodate doctors, healthcare and other medical staff within the premises to create a bio-bubble. Construction of their rooms also is currently underway. After the completion of this centre, the DRDO authorities will work towards building similar COVID facilities at Haj House and the Defense Expo venue in Lucknow.
