Madhya Pradesh is one of the worst-hit states in India, pertaining to the coronavirus and as of now, 95,515 confirmed cases have been reported here. 22,136 cases are listed as active currently and the state has observed 1,844 fatalities. Amidst this gloom, MP has documented an alarming systemic failure, in regards to the COVID-19 testing provisions. Many people in Tana village, which is situated in MP’s Dhar district, ended up as corona positive without even being tested.
Villagers of Tana complained of having received dubious messages
District Collector, Alok Kumar Singh, stated that a Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) was sent for the investigation when villagers of Tana complained of having received dubious messages.
“Initial investigation revealed the carelessness of a block community mobiliser (BCM) and technician in this work. Possibly, the samples collected from some other persons were mixed in the test kits sent on the names of persons, who did not give samples,” the collector was quoted saying. Further investigation are said to be underway. The block community mobiliser (BCM) along with the Health Department technician have been terminated from their positions as they had sent the “blank” samples to the laboratory.
The city of Indore which has faced the most severe lashes of COVID-19 as compared to the other cities in the state, has recorded 17,940 confirmed cases and 473 deaths have been reported.
