Indore’s vaccination drive has faced a major setback due to a shortage of vaccines. As per reports, over 300 inoculation sites in the city are shut since Thursday due to the unavailability of stocks. The Health Department could scout for only 11,000 doses, enough to operate 9 of the total 350 vaccination sites here. Only the second dose beneficiaries were permitted to get the jab at these centres.
Vaccine stocks to be restored by Monday in Indore
Amid the scarcity of the COVID vaccine vials, the Immunisation Incharge of the Health Department has announced a special campaign to procure the second dose of the immunity jab. He also told that around 30 centres will administer the second vaccine dose on Sunday. By Monday, the district expects the arrival of fresh vaccine stock to restore the dynamic inoculation program.
Until then, the available vaccine shots will be utilised for the final dose of all beneficiaries, in various segments- including the 45 plus population and even those in the 18 plus category. As per this plan, people can take their second dose in the next two to three days.
So far, 16,30,297 vaccination shots have been administered in Indore, the highest among all other districts of Madhya Pradesh. The state, on the whole, has provided over 1.38 crore jabs since the launch of the nationwide inoculation drive on January 16, 2021.
