In a late-night decision on Tuesday, the UP government ordained an extended night curfew across the state amid the rising COVID cases here. According to the revised timing, the curfew will stretch from 10 PM to 6 AM, instead of the earlier 11 PM to 5 AM. The order has been moved in cognisance of the rapidly scaling coronavirus spread in the state, which crossed the 3,000 infection mark in the last 24 hours. The state administration has also issued an order to lock down all schools up to class 10, from January 6 to January 14.
“All government and private schools will remain closed up to class 10 till January 14”, the circular read.
Young students (those below 15 years) are now the only segment of the population who are ineligible for the vaccine dose, making them more vulnerable to the virus. The senior classes of 11 and 12 are allowed to attend physical class, following all COVID protocols and social distancing norms.
The state has further said that from January 6 onwards, only 100 people will be allowed to attend any event or gathering held in closed venues. In open places, this capacity has been limited to 50% capacity of the ground. It will be mandatory to use masks and sanitisers. Additionally, directives have been issued to set up COVID-19 help desks in all government, quasi-government and private institutions, trusts, companies, historical monuments, offices, religious places, hotels, restaurants and industrial units.
Increased testing, tracing, monitoring across the state

The government further said that where necessary, daycare centres should be set up and nobody should be allowed into any premises without being screened first. The state will be monitoring all committees and integrated command and control centres to check the infection status here. Such committees will work under gram pradhans in rural areas and under the municipal councillor in urban areas.
Health personnel have been deployed to conduct a door-to-door survey and identify those who are yet to get fully vaccinated. These teams will also distribute medicine kits where necessary. Testing and tracing will also be ramped in the state, the CM said during the meeting with Team-9 on Tuesday. A minimum of 3.4 lakh tests will be conducted daily in the state, up from 1.5-1.7 lakh tests being done now.
The order further read that the previous records of private testing labs should be checked before they are authorized to carry out COVID-19 tests this time. Special Nodal officers should be appointed to keep the protocols in check, in all districts.
“The chief minister further said that all ICCCs should be kept active 24×7 and their numbers should be widely publicized. These should be monitored regularly. A panel of specialists should be available in all ICCCs. A 48-hour negative RT PCR test will be required for anyone visiting the Magh Mela in Prayagraj later this month,” the spokesman said.
23 new Omicron cases found in Uttar Pradesh

COVID cases in UP rose up by 992 fresh infections on Tuesday, with state capital Lucknow alone recording a 70% daily spike. While the active load here is limited to 486, the doubling rate has pegged the state to issue proactive measures. “Currently, there is no district where active cases are more than 1,000 but as soon as that happens, gyms, spas, cinema halls, banquet halls, restaurants and other public places can be operated at only 50 per cent of the capacity,” said the government spokesperson. The state’s active tally stands at 3,173 cases.
Meanwhile, the state logged in 23 new Omicron cases, with the highest share of 8 cases pooling from Lucknow. Besides,5 Omicron cases were found in Meerut, 3 in Ghaziabad, 2 each in Moradabad, Kanpur, Agra, and 1in Maharajganj. With this, UP’s Omicron tally stands at 31. All those who have come in contact with these patients are being traced and tested.
