Kahn River in Indore, also known as the Kahn Nallah, is a 21km long river which has reportedly faced several clean-up attempts since 1985 but none of them could do any justice to it. But now, under the banner of the Smart City riverfront development, the cleaning process has started reflecting in the Kanh river. Around 10 workers have been cleaning the river on a regular basis and removing the heavy sludge from the it. It is being said that the work is speedily progressing.
Beautification in progress
The widespread sludge and garbage is extracted from the water and the riverbanks. Then the accumulated material is transported to the trenching ground. The Smart City, CEO, Aditi Garg has mentioned that the river work is done daily by the workers and it is being reported that a pathway will be developed here soon. For beautification purposes, saplings and grass will be planted here, giving it a green outlook. The water of the river has transformed from a muddy shade to translucent and the surface of the river is now visible.
The way Indore city has been developing, the task of stopping sewage and other wastes from the urban areas is quite a Herculean task. The residents staying near the river are also heavy contributors to the garbage. Based on the Swach Survey that is conducted by the MoHUA, the district of Indore has topped the conclusive list for the fourth time this year. But the riverfront development pertaining to the cleaning and restructuring is still in progress because reforming an urban river is not easy.
