Lucknow’s much awaited ‘Happy Streets’ is back with a power-packed Sunday this week

Good news people, Times of India’s Happy Streets is back and you can once again reclaim the the roads and do things you love! Starting this Sunday you can once again have an entire road to yourself, an can run around carefree on the streets, without having to worry about vehicles and jams, thanks to Happy Streets.

Traffic has significantly increased in Lucknow and the recent metro work, has added to the traffic jams and inconvenience to commuters. It isn’t even possible to walk freely in the markets, like- Bhoothnath, Patrakar, Kapoorthala, Chowk, etc, due to the increasing encroachment. The vendors and vehicles parked everywhere are a big inconvenience. Nevertheless, with TOI’s Happy Streets initiative you’re at-least going to be able to enjoy Sunday mornings.

June 3 onwards, every Sunday at 6 am, head to any one of these roads- Chatori Gali, Marine Drive or Samtamulak Chowk and enjoy a host of activities like- Power Yoga, Zumba, Aerobics, Ludo, Football, Skating, Cycling, Badminton, etc. Bring along your family and friends and get together with city folks to witness a power-packed Sunday. If you have something creative in mind, you can plan your own activity and host it at Happy Streets. At Happy Streets, there is something for people of all ages!

Out of the 3000 km road network Lucknow has, more than 70% of it is encroached by either illegal parking, street vendors, temporary structures. All this makes it impossible for the pedestrians and cyclists to move around freely.

What if Lucknow could always remain as pretty and clean as it was during the days of Investors Summit! Zero garbage, maintenance of roads and cleaning of drains, not only in some colonies but even in the small areas. Lights and flower-pots, made the roads of Lohia Path look spectacular. It is sad, how even after huge money flow to bodies like LMC, PWD, LDA, the roads remain un-repaired and encroached, garbage seems to be lying everywhere. It’s the will that can bring the change, till then let’s just all rely on initiatives like Happy Streets.
