Lucknow’s Aliganj, Mahanagar, and Kapurthala areas are set to get long-overdue traffic relief. The Uttar Pradesh Setu Nigam has proposed a 1.2-kilometre, two-lane flyover from the Indian Oil Petrol Pump to Aliganj via Kapurthala crossing. Estimated at ₹329 crore, the project aims to ease the heavy congestion that chokes these routes during peak hours, affecting over five lakh commuters each day.
₹329 Cr plan includes parking zone, future expansion
Of the ₹329 crore allocated for the project, ₹177 crore is earmarked for construction, ₹118 crore for land acquisition and compensation, and ₹34 crore for shifting utilities like electricity and sewer lines. While the construction phase, expected to last 1.5 to 2 years, may cause temporary disruptions, the long-term payoff includes seamless travel from Mahanagar to Aliganj, reducing the area’s notorious traffic snarls.
The space beneath the flyover is proposed to be turned into a dedicated parking zone. This will bring much-needed relief to Kapurthala’s crowded commercial areas. Parking has long been a challenge here for both shoppers and business owners.
Additionally, residents have suggested extending the plan with a four-lane elevated road from Dandia Bazaar to Tedhi Puliya via Vikas Nagar. If implemented, this could significantly improve traffic movement across the entire stretch.
