All motorists in Mumbai will be required to pay tolls exclusively through FASTag at all toll plazas, from April 1. This change, introduced by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), aims to streamline toll payments and ease traffic congestion at toll booths.
As per reports, motorists without a valid FASTag will be penalised, with the toll fee doubled, regardless of payment method—cash, credit/debit cards, or UPI. This penalty is designed to ensure the smooth functioning of the new system, speeding up transactions and reducing delays at toll booths.
Exemptions to the rule
School buses, light motor vehicles, and State Transport buses will not need to use FASTag at five key entry points into Mumbai, including toll plazas at Mulund West, Mulund East, Airoli, Dahisar, and Vashi. However, for major highways such as the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, the FASTag system will be strictly enforced.
