Mumbai’s iconic Marine Drive is set to shine brighter as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) rolls out an extensive lighting upgrade. To enhance visibility and safety, the civic body will install 110 permanent LED fixtures along the promenade, from the Air India building to the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA).
With a budget of nearly ₹17 lakh, this project aims to cater to the thousands of visitors who frequent the waterfront daily—whether for serene morning walks or breezy evening strolls.
Better lighting for a better experience!
Currently, while streetlights illuminate the area, civic officials agree that they are inadequate, especially during major events like cricket matches at Wankhede Stadium. The new LED fixtures—installed under 55 trees—will not only improve visibility but also add to the charm of the beloved waterfront. The project, pegged at ₹17 lakh, will feature 30-40 watt LED lights, ensuring a well-lit and inviting space for visitors.
Meanwhile, the BMC is also developing a 7.5-km promenade between Breach Candy and Worli as part of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project. Slated to open by March, the new promenade will feature trees, a cycle track, and ample space for citizens to unwind.
