The Maharashtra Government is set to launch Water Taxi services between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai soon. The aim is to cut down travel time and ease road traffic. The route will run from Radio Jetty at Gateway of India to Navi Mumbai Airport, offering a commute time of 40 minutes. The taxis will be powered by electricity, further reducing pollution and providing a more sustainable mode of transport for daily commuters.
As per reports, a high-level meeting chaired by the Maharashtra Ports Development Minister took place on Monday to discuss the implementation process. Officials have been directed to begin planning the service and to submit proposals for building jetties at necessary locations. The Airport Authority has also been instructed to obtain the relevant permissions.
Sources indicate that the construction of terminals will be carried out in phases. There are also plans to integrate the service with the upcoming Mumbai Water Metro to improve connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
