A new temporary walkway will directly connect Terminal 2 of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to the adjacent Metro 3 (Aqua Line) underground station. Currently, passengers face a 15-minute walk and several turns to cover the distance due to the ongoing construction of Metro Line 7A, which will eventually link T2 to Gundavali. The walk becomes even more exhausting and challenging, especially when accompanied by luggage, children, or elderly individuals.
The walkway, proposed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), will serve as a temporary solution until Metro Line 7A’s T2 station becomes operational in December 2026. A feasibility visit was conducted by officials from urban development, MMRDA, MMRC, and airport authorities.
The MMRC has recommended a steel bridge-cum-walkway to ensure smoother passenger movement to the Aqua Line station, located outside T2. Field teams are expected to begin work soon, streamlining access between the Metro and the airport.
