Mumbai experienced unexpected rainfall on Tuesday morning, bringing relief from the scorching heat but raising humidity levels. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and several neighbouring districts including Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. The forecast warns of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds from May 13-14.
IMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms across Mumbai & beyond
On Monday, unseasonal showers lashed several parts of Mumbai, causing waterlogging and significant traffic disruptions in areas like Chembur, Kurla, Powai, and Vikhroli. The IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain, and gusty winds.
Meanwhile, coastal districts like Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are likely to experience stronger winds, and Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, and Sangli remain under an orange alert for Tuesday, with thunderstorms and gusty winds on the radar.
In Mumbai, temperatures are expected to range between 26°C and 34°C, with overcast skies prevailing through the week. While the pre-monsoon showers have brought some relief from the sweltering humidity, the IMD has cautioned that intermittent rain will continue. Commuters are urged to remain cautious as the city prepares for more weather-related disruptions.
