Following the lead of New Delhi's Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Kanpur's Gurudwara Guru Singh Sabha has established an affordable medical store within its premise. Keeping in mind the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Ratanlal Nagar Gurudwara Committee has set up this drugstore for dispensing medicines at low prices, to those in need. With an objective to help hundreds of people, Shri Guru Ramdas Medical Store was inaugurated on Saturday after an ardaas.
Store to function on a 'no profit-no loss' basis
Ashish, the in-charge of the medical store affirmed that the new centre was instituted with the aim to amplify welfare of people. Working on a 'no profit- no loss' policy, the pharmacy will provide medicines at the same price, as it is purchased from the wholesaler. While all generally-used medicines are currently available at this store, future plans include adding stocks of all types of drugs.
Harvinder Singh, speaker of the Guru Singh Sabha, said, "We will ensure that all medicines that are required by the people are available here. If any medicine is not available, we will try and get it within hours,".
A move to ensure benefit for the poor & the needy
Further, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Kanpur, Atul Kumar also highlighted the need of affordable medicine especially amidst the ongoing pandemic. He said, "We have witnessed the effects of COVID-19. We realised the importance of adequate availability of medicines and oxygen. In view of this, a medical store has been opened at no profit- no loss."
Talking to Knocksense, Manmeet Bhatia, a resident of Kanpur said, "This effort by the Gurudwara committee is truly commendable, considering the current scenario where it is impossible for poor people to afford medical expenses."
