'Orange alert' issued in Mumbai;  heavy to very heavy rains in the forecast!

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an 'orange alert' in the city, which indicates that heavy to very heavy rains are expected in sparsely populated regions in Mumbai today. Further, reports state that the central weather forecaster has announced a yellow alert for Mumbai for Saturday and Sunday, with possibilities of heavy showers at isolated locations. Reportedly, the city has been hit hard by the continued effect of the monsoons, with issues of waterlogging and traffic snarls cropping up throughout the city.

Mumbai records the 2nd highest July rainfall of the decade!

With heavy rains stretching over a long period of time through Thursday and Friday, Mumbai witnessed the heaviest downpour of the season. As per reports, 253.3 mm of rainfall was marked in the 24 hours ending on Friday morning, as per the observations of the automatic weather station in Santacruz. Notably, Mumbai registered the second-largest magnitude of daily rainfall for July, in a span of the last 10 years.

Amid heavy rain & water-logging, Mumbai's local trains get cancelled

Due to high rainfall in Mumbai city, the local trains hit an obstacle. The high rainfall resulted in waterlogging, in not just several streets around Mumbai but also on many train tracks for the Mumbai local trains. As of now, these trains are not operable. Many parts of Mumbai saw high rainfall on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, which led to overflowing train tracks.
