Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s industrial estate located in Navi Mumbai is all set to house Google’s latest data center in India as the company attempts to keep up with the growing demand in the country.
Raiden Infotech India Pvt Ltd, one of Google’s affiliates, has signed a lease for 28 years with Amanthin Info Parks Pvt Ltd with a monthly rent starting at Rs 8.83 crore. The land, originally owned by MIDC, has been leased to Amanthin Info Parks.
The new data center is projected to come up within two years
The agreement to sub-lease the land also includes an annual rent hike clause of 1.75 per cent. Google will pay a sum of Rs 1,144 crore in the first ten years and Rs 7.26 as the stamp duty for renting the said property, as per CRE Matrix, a real estate data analytics firm.
Google’s new data center will be an eight-storey building which is expected to be ready for use in 24 months. This comes after Google had leased 43,100 sqm space in Noida’s Adani Data Center as the company continues to add to its cloud infrastructure in India, one of its biggest growth markets.
Big tech continues to invest big in India
Google’s decision to come up with another data center in India further adds to the list of the world’s biggest tech companies investing big in data centers in the country.
In November 2022, Amazon Web Services (AWS) had also announced an investment of Rs 36,300 crore to build its second data center cluster in India. Similarly, in March 2022, Microsoft had also penned an agreement with Telangana State Government to invest Rs 15,000 crore for setting up a data center in Hyderabad, which will be the company’s fourth data center in India.
