For the first time in the city, a metro train on a pre-trial run entered Mumbai last week. The Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) train, which originated from the Aarey Metro Station, reached Dadar at around 3 PM on Tuesday.
Notably, Metro Line 3 is the only one that will cater to South Mumbai commuters, as stations on Line 1 and Line 2 are either in the suburbs or the metropolitan area.
Furthermore, Phase 1 (Aarey to BKC) of Metro 3 includes 10 stations while Phase 2 (BKC to Acharya Atre Chowk) will have 6 stations. Once the Aarey to BKC phase becomes operational, testing will begin for the next phase.
According to previous announcements, Phase 1 was slated to become operational by April and the deadline for Phase 2 was July. However, these deadlines will be delayed, based on the current status of the trial run.
