In a major relief for commuters, the Bombay High Court has ordered the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to construct toilets outside Bandra East Railway Station. This directive also involves the co-operation of the railway authorities, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
This order comes in response to a public interest litigation, which highlighted the inconvenience faced by commuters after existing toilets were demolished for a dispensary. The court emphasised the need for prompt action and co-operation among the involved agencies to address this basic amenity.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice Devendra Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar, also suggested involving non-governmental organisations if necessary. This collaborative effort is expected to significantly improve the overall passenger experience at this busy station.
