In a simple yet innovative move to fuel water conservation and spark conversations around it, hotels in Indore have decided to serve half-filled glasses of water to the customers. This measure is being executed under an initiative taken up by the non-profit Ojas Foundation. Besides saving water and preventing its wastage, this scheme will spread awareness amongst the city folks to take similar, that are conducive to conserving the elixir of life.
‘Jalhaat Jan Abhiyan’, guiding water conservation in Indore
Recently, ‘Jalhaat’ program was conducted in Indore, wherein the participants discussed different ways to resolve the water crisis and promote conservation. Therein, people highlighted the urgent need for stopping water wastage and protecting all forms of water bodies including ponds, rivers, lakes, streams etc. At the same program, Sumit Suri, the President of Indore Hoteliers’ Association declared that patrons will get half a glass of water at the eateries.
Notably, this intervention will be worked out under the first phase of ‘Jalhaat Jan Abhiyan’. Besides, a string of other activities are being organised in urban and rural areas of the city, with participation from all spheres of society. Given the changing dynamics of the environment, continuous steps to further the goal of water conservation.
Extensive steps required for the goal of water conservation
Nishant Khare, a member of the Madhya Pradesh Covid Advisory Committee was also present at the aforesaid event. He mentioned that cities like Bangalore and Chennai are already facing the adverse effects of the water crisis. In view of this, it is important to ensure comprehensive measures that can ascertain water conservation and ensure a sustainable future.
Additionally, a number of other public officials took part in the discussions, focused on adopting new ways to save water. Amid a list of initiatives that are needed, the authorities must try to make sure that the ponds are free of encroachments. Further, it is pertinent to increase awareness amongst young people, so that they are inspired to contribute to this purpose.
