Ushering an economic respite for non-domestic consumers in Indore and nearby regions, the Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Compay Ltd has initiated ₹2.50 crore power factor incentives. According to Discom officials, rebates have been granted to around 1.25 lakh power bills, that were equipped with smart meters. These electricity connections are mostly used by commercial establishments and industries.
Smart meters help consumers get power rebates
A power factor rebate is granted according to the tariff, when the consumer’s installation records more than a 0.85 lag or point average power factor, in any month. A consumer is entitled to get ₹1/unit off their total monthly consumption. A smart meter uses frequency to gauge the power factor and therefore, notes the irregularities. The equipment factors the use of certified electrical equipment and electrical fittings in commercial setups to certify the rebate.
A similar methodology is followed for industrial units or factories, in regard to the calculation of power factor incentives on electric connections. The Managing Director of Discom pointed out that the use of certified equipment and proper fitting helps to minimise power loss and short circuits, in the long term.
As such, thousands of power rebates have been granted to consumers who have complied with the use of the golden standards of power connections and linked them to smart meters. As of now, around ₹2.59 crores have slashed off about 1.25 lakh commercial bills, in the last two years, the MD added. Of these, around 1.22 lakh bills were generated in Indore, while the remaining were issued in the neighbouring Ujjain, Ratlam, Mhow, and Khargone districts.
