The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is finally completed and ready for its public run. The much-awaited expressway is set to transform one of UP’s most-travelled routes. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway on April 28. However, PMO’s final clearance is still awaited on this matter.
The upgrade is significant as the current NH-27 route, 94 kilometres of heavy traffic and broken roads, takes up to 3 hours. The new six-lane expressway cuts that to just 30–45 minutes across a smoother 63-kilometre stretch, with a top speed of 120 km/h.
Tolls, however, have taken a sharp jump. Cars will pay ₹275 one-way, nearly three times the existing ₹95 on NH-27. Buses and trucks face ₹935 one-way. Two and three-wheelers won’t be allowed on the expressway at all.
Spanning two zones, 45.3 km in Unnao and 18.7 km in Lucknow, the expressway has been years in the making. For daily commuters, business travellers, and freight operators, it’s a long-overdue win. The toll hike stings, but getting two hours of your day back, that’s hard to argue with.
