After an extended dry spell, Ahmedabad recorded light rainfall on Thursday, receiving an average of 2 mm across the city. While the showers offered temporary respite from the oppressive weather, temperatures remained well above the seasonal average, with humidity continuing to make conditions uncomfortable.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad is unlikely to witness prolonged rainfall immediately. Instead, the city is expected to experience generally cloudy skies with isolated light rain over the next few days, before thunderstorm activity becomes more likely from the weekend onwards.
Ahmedabad records above-normal temperature
Despite Thursday’s showers, Ahmedabad remained warmer than usual. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 37°C, around 3.3°C above normal, while the minimum settled at 27.5°C, approximately 1.3°C above the seasonal average. Relative humidity stood at 71% in the morning and 69% in the evening, contributing to persistently muggy conditions under partly cloudy skies.
Why does Ahmedabad still feel hot despite rain?
The brief spell of rainfall was not enough to significantly cool the atmosphere. Weather experts explain that intermittent showers, combined with high moisture levels, often lead to elevated humidity rather than a noticeable drop in temperature. As a result, residents continue to experience warm and uncomfortable conditions despite occasional rain.
Scattered Rainfall Reported Across Gujarat
Ahmedabad’s showers were part of a broader spell of scattered rainfall across Gujarat. According to official data, 92 talukas recorded at least 1 mm of rain during the day.
Among the highest rainfall recipients were:
- Kamrej (Surat): 46 mm
- Rapar (Kutch): 43 mm
- Mangrol (Surat): 38 mm
- Bardoli (Surat): 38 mm
Several other districts also reported light to moderate showers, although rainfall remained uneven across the state.
