The new plan has been devised to avert traffic locks during the peak tourist season in Calangute
Amidst the peak of the holiday and tourist season in Goa, the Calangute traffic cell and panchayat have decided to shift to new parking plans for better traffic management. Domestic travellers are expected to arrive in large numbers until the New Year here and as such, an elaborate system has been devised for the ease of all. This new parking layout stands in contrast with plans implemented in the previous year, added reports, for greater and improved ease.
New parking plan open ample space for tourist vehicles
The previously occupied parking spaces in the field along the Chogm road opposite Calangute church will remain closed. Instead, the following multi-pronged parking plan will be put into action:
The fields at Bhokovod on the Calangute-Mapusa route have been opened this year for the parking of all tourist vehicles coming from Mapusa and Panjim. In addition to this, all large outstation tourist buses, tempo travellers and other large vehicles will be further directed to the fields at Nagoa.
Traffic flowing from Anjuna front will be allowed to park their vehicles near the Wax Museum in Arpora just before the Arpora-Calangute bridge. All private and small vehicles coming in this direction will be allowed to drive into the parking areas in Baga and Calangute. There are no special arrangements in Candolim since all celebrations for Christmas and New Year has been suspended in wake of COVID here.
While the stakeholders of the Goa tourism economy have confirmed that the tourist influx is low amid the Omicron scare, footfalls are expected to rise in the coming days. Notably, the Goa administration has not enforced any restrictive protocols in wake of COVID spread and people are advised to take personal caution themselves.
