South Goa district hospital is now the new COVID-19 facility of the state

The State Health Minister announced that the hospital in the South Goa district, Margao has been commissioned as the COVID-19 facility in the state with a potential of housing 150 patients. Until now, all coronavirus infected patients were receiving treatment at the ESI Hospital in Margao, the Medical College and Hospital near Panaji and the Sub-District Hospital in Ponda.

The recently established medical facility of the South Goa District Hospital is now labelled as the principal coronavirus treatment facility in the state. With a team of over 70 medical professional and capacity of 150 beds, which would be increased to 250-300 in a graded manner, this hospital aims to turn into a high dependency unit soon. The facility can be scaled up to 566 beds in case of necessity, announced the Health Minister in a tweet on Saturday.

Based on the inspection conducted on Saturday, the facility has been well equipped with the installation of where HFNO (high flow nasal oxygen) machines and ventilators, to provide best in class treatment facilities to its patients. Besides that, the Minister has also pointed out that nutritious and quality meals would be offered to the patients with housekeeping services to boost health and sanitation for a speedy recovery.

"With stringent protocols in place, we have started taking patient admissions and shifting of patients from ESIC and Goa Medical College (GMC) and hospital. Team Goa is working persistently towards intensifying our fight against COVID-19," read another tweet by the Health Minister.

On Saturday, Goa recorded a tally of 643 new cases, totalling the caseload to 28,022 since the outbreak. With 446 recoveries and 7 fatalities yesterday, Goa's official statistics stand at 21,760 recoveries and 342 deaths.
