Landing at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore on Friday, the first proving flight of the Fly Big airlines received a water cannon salute at the runway. With 26 passengers on-board, the flight reached Indore at around 15:36 hours, testifying for the functional preparedness of the flight, which is soon to commence operations from Indore. That is right Indoris, travel to destinations Bhopal, Jabalpur, Raipur, Ahmedabad is all set to become affordable for every individual, as FlyBig aims to boost regional connectivity at cheaper fares.
FlyBig: Short Routes, Shorter Ticket Bills!
To further the Prime Minister’s ambition to improve last-mile connectivity by boosting the travel infrastructure of small towns and districts, FlyBig has been initiated under the government’s regional connectivity scheme. Based in Indore, the Big Fly’s domicile base in India will assist the people to enjoy a seamless travel experience even for shorter distances, at affordable-pocket friendly prices.
Utilising its domicile base, the Big Airlines’ will schedule flights to two-three intra-state destinations, including capital Bhopal and Jabalpur as notified at the association. Slated to commence operations from December, or in the new year, about 5 planes will be deployed here, which connect to various destinations from Indore.
What is a proving flight?
A proving flight is the airlines’ first aviation, whose successful flight testifies the safe travel of passengers. It is a pre-requisite before issuing the license for civil aviation for any new line and customary, testing exercises are carried out to ensure the safety and preparedness of the airlines to conduct day to day operations.
This particular FlyBig flight took off from Hyderabad, reaching Nagpur and continuing further till Bhopal. From the capital, the proving flight reached Indore, where it was welcomed with a grand water salute.
The director of the Indore airport has stated that currently, about 50 daily flights take off from the Indore airport, which is about 50% of its usual traffic, in the pre-covid times, ferrying a load of only 3,000 passengers in place of its absolute potential of 9500 flyers. The addition of the new flights will help shoulder the traveller load. This number is soon expected to soar higher with the launch of the covid-19 vaccine. The district airport authorities have thus anticipated that the flight count can be increased soon, in the coming days.
