India’s largest energy conglomerate, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has drafted plans to set-up a plant to convert waste into energy in Devgurada. As per an official statement, the municipal solid waste will be segregated and processed to utilise combustion fraction for conversion to coal or for power generation, biodegradable fraction for production of methane gas for use as bio CNG and the recycled residue shall be used for construction purpose after required processing.
Expense for setting up the plant to be borne by NTPC
Earlier, a MoU between NTPC and Indore Municipal Corporation was signed and reportedly, a sum of 107 crores would be shelled to establish the plant which would be one of its kind. According to claims, the expense for setting up the plant would be entirely borne by NTPC and it is being assumed that the development work of the plant will commence within a month’s time. The authorities will also bring in a state-of-the-art machinery which would permute waste into coal. Further, there are also reports of identical plants to be setup in Bhopal, Varanasi and Dewas.
As per official sources, throughout the course of six months, the Indore Municpal Corporation has also cleaned out approximately 13 tonnes of waste which has led to the cleansing of 100 acres of land. Previously, the administrative body had decided to turn this land into a golf ground but later, the plans took towards the direction of a planned forest. Amidst that forested area, the NTPC plant will be structured.
