Kanpur likely to receive rainfall from Jan 23; Hailstorm predicted

Farmers have been advised to postpone irrigation until the harsh weather conditions improve.

Owing to the collision of winds coming in from the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and the western disturbances originating from the Mediterranean, Kanpur and other regions of Uttar Pradesh are likely to see heavy rain with chances of hailstorm, starting Jan 23. The city is currently experiencing maximum temperatures of 21.4 °C, with northeastern winds flowing at an average speed of 1 km/h.

Relief from cold after Jan 26; Temperatures to rise

After the 3-4 days of moderate to heavy rainfall from Jan 23, which is expected to subside by Jan 26, the temperatures in the city are expected to go up, providing relief to the residents from the biting cold. The first half of January has seen temperatures in Kanpur drop below 5°C along with icy winds as the cold wave gripped North India.

Also, according to Dr SN Sunil Pandey, Chief Meteorologist at Kanpur's Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, the movement of clouds, closing in on Kanpur, has already begun. As a result of this, a strong shower of 20-25 mm is expected in the city and farmers in Kanpur and the neighboring regions have been suggested to defer irrigation to avoid losing their crops.
