As an empowering initiative focused on facilitating women’s self-help groups, the Uttar Pradesh government will now work on establishing women-run food outlets known as “Didi Cafes.” These cafes will serve as platforms for offering affordable food, snacks and beverages to the general public.
According to the proposed plans, the Didi Cafes are to be established in 17 municipal corporation cities, which include prominent locations such as Agra, Mathura, Firozabad and Vrindavan, among others.
Initially, the first Didi Cafe will be operationalized within the municipal corporations of the Agra division. The results and experiences gathered from this initial venture will play a crucial role in shaping future plans for establishing similar outlets in other cities.
The Didi Cafe initiative aligns with the central government’s objective of empowering women associated with self-help groups formed under the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM). Along with this, one such project is already function in Varanasi on trial basis.
