Lucknow’s Charbagh station is one of the top 10 most busy stations in the country. Blending age old heritage with a modern mode of transport, it is more than just a railway station. Over the years however, its condition and appearance has deteriorated making some sections in need of a dire makeover. Now, the railroad terminal has been revamped to give a better first impression of the city and we’re loving the new look. Read on to know more about the changes the station has undergone.

With the ever increasing footfall at Charbagh Railway station, the LDA has already begun working on the redevelopment of the station. As part of this, they plan to completely redesign the basic amenities and facilities for travellers. CCTVs will be installed in all waiting rooms, kitchens and more to ensure safety for everyone. For better illumination of the station, the plan is to install cost effective LED lights across platforms. On a larger scale, they plan to improve the infrastructure and overall ambience in the station.
Facilities around the station have been improved as well. The foot over bridge is now more pedestrian friendly and to add convenience, the lifts and escalators have been installed at new places. The station also has a new green circulating area, where all the waste is disposed off properly, in the right manner, making the station a lot cleaner than before.

Apart from Lucknow station, other railway stations in India such as Jaipur, Manduadih, New Delhi, Tirupati, Allahabad, Patna etc have already been upgraded. The government approved Railways’ proposal for the redevelopment of railway stations earlier this year in February. All the stations on Indian Railways have been entrusted to IRSDC for undertaking the techno-economic feasibility studies.
If the move seems to be beneficial and a cost saving method, the railways plan to expand it and implement it on a wider scale. At any rate, the redevelopment of Charbagh is a great addition to the city.
