A bunch of new projects, under the smart city program are set to bring Lucknow at par with the metropolitan city in the country. UP CM, Yogi Adityanath recently inaugurated two developmental projects and laid the foundation for 11 other projects. We take a look at what these developments are and how they will impact Lucknowites and their city.
Lucknow’s public transport is quickly developing into a bigger and better network with the expansions of metros and upcoming smart bus shelters across the city. In turn, the city will, hopefully, see a reduction in the number of private vehicles plying on the roads. The city has also brought in a slew of new low floor buses that offer a more modern and safer travel experience. The allotted budget of the project is ₹84 crores and should be in place by March 31, 2019.
The project comes under the smart city proposition and has a total budget of ₹8.15 crores. Under ITMS, 110 traffic lights with automatic signal control systems, a separate light signal for people traversing on foot and CCTV cameras will be installed. With the help of CCTVs, officials can immediately send e-challans to traffic rule violators. It’s time to bid adieu to traffic woes. The system should be in place by March 31, 2019.
Spreading the message of fitness across the city, this project aims to construct an open air gym at Jhandiwala Park as well as at Dayanidhan Park. The gym will be swank and complete with up to 11 high end fitness equipment. The best part about the gym is that you can get lean without having to burn a hole in your pocket. Additionally, you can take in the environment and sweat it out in a natural environment. The expected completion date of the project is March 31, 2019.
A Master Systems Integrator is nothing but a main system that overlooks various sub systems in its wing. In Lucknow, the Integrator Centre is being set up so as to keep a track of all the smart city projects and developments. Under this, they will ensure that everything- from the ITMS to smart bus terminals and everything in between functions as it is expected to. At its core, it is a control system to overlook developments. The budget for this project comes to a total of ₹45.8 crores and should be set up by May 2019.
Sewage Treatment Plants are proposed to be installed at a number of hospitals across Lucknow. As of now STPs have already been implemented at Avantibai and Balrampur hospitals. The goal of these STPs is to provide a more hygenic and patient friendly treatment in these hospitals. Additionally, it also ensures that Lucknow is a more cleaner city for all. The project should be completed by November 2019 and has a budget of ₹6.12 crores.
One of Lucknow’s busiest areas, Kaiserbagh has a bunch of issues that are being tackled by the LDA. One of these is to install a smart bus terminal in the coming months and in the future, the entire area will see a much needed makeover. Another development that is being clubbed with it is the installation of a 132 kilometre sewage pipe that will ensure that the waste is treated properly and not spread out over the city. The project has the largest budget of the lot at ₹298 crores and is set to be complete by September 2019.
Lucknow is quickly moving towards a cleaner future and one of the developments to take this on is to install Solar Plants at a number of major parts in the city. As of now, a solar power plant has been inaugurated at Bharwa Sewage Plant in Gomti Nagar and a 178KW solar plant was inaugurated at Avantibai Hospital rooftop. Surely, Lucknow will see the benefits of the power source soon and make it a mainstream fuel. The total cost for these projects was ₹113 crores.
The developments are certainly at par with any metropolitan city in the country and Lucknow will soon become one of them. The developments ensure a future proof Lucknow and pave a path for future developments. Hopefully, reading about these make you feel proud to be a Lucknowite.
