The newly launched electric buses are here to change the scenario of public transport in Lucknow. The Lucknow metro too, which will be inaugurated this year itself, will bring in a lot of comfort for the travellers. No matter how comfortable travelling is there is always a safety concern. In order to spread awareness and keep a check on the same, the 1090 team has devised a special campaign for the metro-takers.

What’s the campaign?
Lucknow metro authorities have joined forces with UP’s women power line (WPL) 1090. With the combined forces, they aim to make metro premises and compartments safer for women. Additionally, their goal is to inform women about the safety arrangements that they are setting up so they can make use of them and steer clear of any trouble.
The WPL 1090 team will set up a task force of officers, the ‘Power Angels’. These officers will be stationed at metro stations around the clock to assist female passengers in any situation that they may need help. Apart from that, their goal is to give women a voice and a platform to express themselves, their opinions and experiences regarding the metro.

Another important feature, is that they are setting up emergency calling systems in each coach. If required, these can be used to contact the train driver or the power angels. For this, there will be a dedicated team who will attend to it at any time, without delay.
Why is it necessary?
With constant development and advancement, it is essential to keep sight of women travellers. Since Lucknow metro is a high tech rail system, it runs till well past the evening, making people sceptical of using it. With the new task force, the goal is to provide a safer and better travel experience for women. By the end of this month, the movement should be on track and functional.
In the future, we hope for more such developments in metros across the city. This marks a milestone event for the Lucknow metro and points towards a developing and progressive society as a whole.
