Over 1 crore COVID vaccine jabs ordered for inoculation drives in Lucknow & other UP districts!

Furthering its plans for enhanced and extensive vaccination drives in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has ordered over one crore COVID-19 vaccine jabs. These doses shall be used to immunise citizens in the state over the age of 18, under the third phase of inoculation, slated for a start on May 1. This amplified schedule of vaccination is expected to be beneficial for arresting the uncontrolled infection rates being witnessed in Lucknow and other major districts.

Speaking about the upcoming vaccination drives, the Chief Minister stated in a statement, "Uttar Pradesh government has placed an order for 1 crore doses of anti-COVID vaccines for the vaccination drive beginning on May 1. An order of 50-50 lakh doses has been placed for both indigenous vaccine manufacturers. In addition, the dose will be made available by the Government of India. A comprehensive action plan is being prepared in this regard."

The central government had relaxed the vaccination policy and issued directives to open immunisation for all adult citizens. In order to promote wide-scale vaccinations, the central administration has allowed manufacturers of vaccine jabs to supply 50% to state governments and in the general markets. For this, the production companies will have to make a prior announcement of the prices before May 1.

After the central government announced new guidelines for vaccination, the Uttar Pradesh government rolled out its decision, allowing free of cost immunisation for all citizens from May 1. It is to be noted that the registration process for all individuals above 18, shall commence the COWIN app from April 28. Given the havoc ushered by the second wave, widespread programs for vaccination have become the need of the hour.
