Post inspections, Lucknow Metro is all set for a commercial launch

Lucknow metro is coming in as a boon for the citizens of Lucknow. The North-South corridor of the metro, as of now, is only operable in a few areas but soon, the entire line will be open for public. On Saturday, the complete North-South corridor was given a green signal post it’s safety inspections. An opening date has not been announced yet, but should come out soon.

What’s the extended route?

The North-South corridor is complete now, the stations are built and ready for being used by the public. The existing route goes from Transport Nagar to Charbagh, while the extended route, goes all the way from Munshipulia to CCS Airport. Not only is this great for residents of the city and for travellers too.

The extended route covers areas such as Amausi, Hussain Ganj, Hazratganj, Indira Nagar, Munshipulia and a few other areas. The complete route covers an area of 23 kilometres. Since the metro construction in these areas is complete, residents can finally bid adieu to traffic related issues faced on a day to day basis.

About the trial runs

The trial runs and safety inspections of the extended metro route were ongoing for the past couple of days and now, the extended route has been given a green signal. The deadline for the completion of North-South corridor was initially April 2019, but the work has been completed a month before the target date, which is a commendable feat.

In the inspection, every aspect that would come into play during the functioning of the metro was put to test. Each aspect was thoroughly scrutinized in order to make sure that there would be no snags during the actual run of the metro coaches. The 3 day inspection was completed on Friday, and a go-ahead signal was given on Saturday.

Whom will it benefit?

The Lucknow metro is slowly growing into a more preferred means of public transport. With the expansion of the metro, it connects more areas and thereby, is accessible to a larger number of people. Since the metro has been extended to the airport, commuters do not have to worry about high fare cabs or traffic jams in the area.

Additionally, since Hazratganj also has a metro station now, one can expect more visitors to the already booming marketplace. As of now, there is no date for when the metro will be open to the public, but it is expected that a date will be revealed soon.
