The Novel Coronavirus has been making all the headlines lately. The virus outbreak which has affected 29 countries so far, has also been declared as an epidemic and classified as an International Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the WHO under IHR (International Health Regulation). Naturally, several rumours about the spread of the virus, its cures and symptoms have been making the rounds too. In such a case it is very important to have all the information at hand.

To ensure people are not in a state of panic due to misinformation spread through rumours, UP government has set up a helpline desk as a preventive measure to deal with Coronavirus outbreak.

What's the update?

Coronavirus, the deadly virus which originated from the Wuhan city of China has caused the death of over 1,700 people globally and has been a constant source of fear for people worldwide. Due to its close proximity to China, India has been under the radar for quite some time now. Although, only a handful of cases have been reported in the country so far.

However, in order to stay prepared in case of an emergency situation, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken several preventive steps which include setting up of a dedicated Coronavirus Helpline Desk at the State Headquarters- 1800-180-5145, vigilant screening of travellers from China, screening of villages at Nepal Border and the government has even alerted all medical colleges in the state to be in a state of readiness.

The government has also ensured the people that no positive case of Novel Coronavirus (nCoV) has yet been reported in UP. However, 73 samples had been sent to NIV, Pune and KGMU for nCoV testing out of which 67 have come out negative while 6 results are still awaited.
