Visitors trying to find a stay in Uttar Pradesh’s ecotourism areas, including tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries, may soon have a new option—Motorhomes. The Uttar Pradesh Forest Corporation (UPFC), in collaboration with the state tourism department, introduced the concept on Tuesday during a joint seminar in Lucknow.
Inspired by international ecotourism models
Drawing inspiration from global best practices, motorhomes are designed to serve as mobile accommodation units for tourists when fixed lodging is unavailable. These self-contained units will be stationed near existing tourism facilities but not within core forest or wildlife territories.
Fully equipped for comfort and convenience
The first motorhome, developed as a pilot by UPFC, is the size of a standard bus and comes equipped with an air conditioner, compact kitchen, bed, washroom and storage space. There is also provision for a refrigerator and television, ensuring tourists can enjoy a comfortable stay close to nature.
As per reports, the fare may be slightly higher than an AC room, but the mobility and flexibility it offers are unmatched.
Improving access to ecotourism destinations
The state government plans to roll out the booking system for these motorhomes ahead of the next ecotourism season, beginning in November. As ecotourism gains popularity across Uttar Pradesh, the demand for quality accommodation near reserves such as Dudhwa, Pilibhit, and Katarniaghat has outpaced supply.
Officials noted that these units are especially useful in areas where constructing permanent infrastructure is restricted or unfeasible. The motorhome initiative is expected to provide much-needed relief, especially during peak tourist seasons.
