Flying of drones and similar objects, hot air balloons, paragliders banned in Mumbai till May 5
Mumbai Police have banned the flying of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, hot air balloons, and similar objects in the city for one month, citing potential terrorist threats. The ban, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, will be in effect from April 4 to May 5. This restriction does not apply to police surveillance or any operations specifically authorised by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations).
Strict legal action against violators
Officials explained that the temporary ban is intended to prevent terrorists and anti-social elements from misusing these aerial devices for attacks on VVIPs and to safeguard public safety. The order also cites potential risks of property damage and disruptions to law and order within the Mumbai Police Commissionerate area.
Anyone found contravening the ban will face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with disobedience of lawful orders issued by public servants.
