Starting August 23, the Maharashtra government will waive tolls on major highways, including the Mumbai-Bengaluru and Mumbai-Goa National Highways, to ease travel during Ganesh Chaturthi. This toll-free period will continue until September 8, with commuters able to avail of toll exemptions via special passes, “Ganeshotsav 2025 – Konkan Darshan”, ensuring a smoother journey.
To manage congestion, heavy vehicles will be restricted on the Mumbai-Goa Highway. Additionally, special buses and trains have been deployed to provide a hassle-free travel experience for those heading home for the festive season.

In a move to reduce festive traffic, heavy vehicles like trucks and trailers will be restricted on the Mumbai-Goa Highway during peak days. However, exemptions will be in place for vehicles transporting essential goods such as milk, fuel, and medicines.

MSRTC deploys thousands of special buses
To accommodate the surge in travellers, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has arranged 5,200 special buses, with many already fully booked. The service offers direct connections to remote villages, with senior citizens eligible for significant fare discounts. For passenger convenience, MSRTC will provide 24/7 staff support and temporary restroom facilities at key halting points.
Railways runs record number of special trains
Adding to the travel options, Indian Railways has announced a record 380 Ganpati Special train trips, the highest ever, to handle the festive rush along the Konkan route. These co-ordinated efforts by road and rail authorities aim to ensure a safe and hassle-free journey for all devotees this festive season.
