In a major relief for commuters, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) announced on Friday that toll charges on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will remain unchanged until April 2030. This decision overturns the recent announcement by MSRDC which stated that toll rates on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway would increase from April 1, 2025.
The move benefits the 1.4 lakh vehicles that ply the expressway daily, offering financial stability to regular travellers. Commuters have welcomed the decision, appreciating the respite from rising travel costs.
Fixed tolls until 2030
Officials clarified that the toll rates, last revised in April 2023, will remain fixed for the next seven years as per the long-term agreement established in 2005. However, the old Mumbai-Pune highway, which sees around 50,000 vehicles daily, will witness a toll hike starting April 2025, following the annual revision policy of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
While NHAI-operated toll plazas are set to increase rates from April 1, 2025, based on inflation and other cost factors, the MSRDC-managed expressway will maintain its current toll structure. Commuters have praised the decision, citing financial relief and stable travel costs. The move is expected to bolster economic activity by ensuring affordable connectivity between Mumbai and Pune, two of Maharashtra’s most vital cities.
Current toll rates on the expressway remain at ₹320 for cars, ₹495 for mini buses, ₹1,630 for trucks with over two axles, and ₹2,165 for mobile cranes.
