Mumbai is gearing up for a transformative boost in urban mobility with the green light for two new metro corridors. The ₹23,487 crore Mumbai Metro Line 11, spanning 17.51 km from Wadala to Gateway of India, will ease traffic and boost connectivity to key spots like Byculla, CSMT, and the Wadala Monorail. Also, the extension of the Metro 4 line (Wadala-Thane-Kasarvadavali) will feature a predominantly underground route, with 70% of the stretch beneath the city’s surface.
Massive infrastructure boost on the cards
The ₹23,487 crore Metro Line 11 stands out as a game-changer, stretching 17.51 km from Wadala to the iconic Gateway of India, passing through Nagpada and Bhendi Bazaar. Primarily underground, this line will seamlessly connect with other metro routes, the monorail, and key suburban stations, significantly improving connectivity across South Mumbai, including areas like Byculla, CSMT, and Wadala. It promises to ease traffic congestion while enhancing urban mobility.
In addition, a ₹12,200 crore, 29-km circular metro line for Thane has also been approved. Other major developments include a 25-km, six-lane elevated road connecting Thane to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, which will reduce travel time from 90 minutes to just 30.
