With New Year’s Eve fast approaching and citizens gearing up to celebrate, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials are set to conduct surprise inspections across hotels, bars and restaurants in Mumbai. These checks aim to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards during the festive rush.
FDA cracks down on food safety norms for New Year!
On December 31, large crowds are expected to gather at restaurants, hotels and bars to celebrate. To maintain food quality during this busy period, FDA has deployed special teams across 13 Mumbai zones. Strict action will be taken against establishments found violating food safety norms.
In previous years, some renowned hotels were caught with unclean kitchens, rodent infestations and missing FDA food licences, resulting in fines and temporary closures. This year, similar checks during Diwali focused on preventing adulteration in sweets, paneer, ghee and dry fruits, with a warning to manufacturers against reusing frying oil.
Further, FDA has asked the public to report concerns about food quality via their toll-free number 1800-222-365.
