Mumbai’s BKC pod taxi project moves ahead with plans for unified transport link

Mumbai’s proposed ₹1,016-crore pod taxi project at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) is being positioned as a key step in strengthening the city’s public transport network. The city is further working towards a unified transport framework where citizens can access different modes using a single smart card. Pod taxis are planned to be integrated into this system, alongside redevelopment of Kurla and Bandra stations for smoother connectivity.

With the upcoming bullet train station and the new Mumbai High Court building set to draw more traffic, the Kurla–Bandra stretch is expected to witness a sharp rise in commuter movement. Pod taxis are being seen as an efficient solution to bridge last-mile gaps and ease pressure on existing transport systems.

Officials are considering shifting police housing near Kurla station to free up land for pod taxi infrastructure. Proposals also include connecting BKC’s commercial buildings directly to pod taxi stations to ensure seamless commuter access.
