Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has announced the launch of electric ferry services connecting Mumbai to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) from January 2025. Part of the Harit Sagar or ‘Green Port’ initiative, the service aims to provide a zero-emission, environmental-friendly travel option while reducing journey time by 20 minutes.
Capacity, speed & charging time
The ferries, made of fibre-reinforced polymer and measuring 12-15 metres, can carry 20-24 passengers with air-conditioned seating. Operated at a speed of 12 knots, the vessel has a three-hour operational range and requires 75 minutes for a full recharge. Tickets, managed by JNPA, will be available through an online system with convenient check-in options.
The service will run from the Gateway of India to JNP in regular conditions and from Bhaucha Dhakka to JNP during the foul season, ensuring year-round connectivity.
