In a dramatic turn for rain-deficit Mumbai, the city found itself drenched in rainfall on Thursday, marking a break from the relentless heat and humidity of recent days. Areas such as Marol, Lower Parel, Dadar, Bandra, Kurla, Mulund, Malad, Bhandup, Kalina, Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Goregaon, experienced persistent drizzling throughout the day.
However, amidst the welcome showers, Mumbai faced a familiar challenge: traffic came to a standstill. Citizens reported taking over two hours to get from CSMT to Parel, one and a half hours from Santacruz to Kalina, and two and a half hours to get from BKC to Santacruz West.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts an increase in rainfall as the southwest monsoon progresses. A scientist at IMD Mumbai highlighted that the city experienced significant rainfall on Thursday, driven by strong westerly winds. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation over Gujarat is expected to further enhance precipitation. Despite these conditions, June’s overall rainfall is anticipated to be below normal.
Looking ahead, IMD’s forecast for Friday and Saturday points to moderate rainfall, with the likelihood of another round of heavy downpours on Sunday. A yellow alert has been issued for June 30, signalling potential heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
For the next 24 hours, expect cloudy sky with occasional spells of moderate to heavy rain across Mumbai and its suburbs. Temperatures will range between 32°C and 25°C.
