The MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024 concluded with a glittering finale at PVR INOX, Juhu, marking another successful chapter in its legacy as South Asia’s premier film festival. With over 110 films from 45+ countries in 50+ languages, this edition celebrated storytelling that’s as diverse as it is captivating, making its mark on the global cinematic stage.

The stars of MAMI 2024
The festival’s competitive segments saw remarkable entries winning prestigious honours. Amit Dutta’s “Rhythm of a Flower” (Phool Ka Chand) clinched the coveted Golden Gateway Award, while “Nocturnes” by Anirban Dutta and Anupama Srinivasan secured the Silver Gateway Award.
A standout success story was “Girls Will Be Girls” by Shuchi Talati, which garnered multiple accolades including the NETPAC Award and the Film Critics Guild Gender Sensitivity Award.
In short films, “Ade” (On A Sunday) by Theja Rio took home Best Film, while Mantra Watsa’s “Coming Back to Life” earned a Special Jury Prize.
Among the festival’s highlights was the presentation of the Excellence in Cinema Award to veteran actress Shabana Azmi, recognising her invaluable contribution to cinema. The event also celebrated emerging talents, with BMCLD by Shreela Agarwal winning the Dimensions Mumbai Gold Award, showcasing the city’s vibrant young filmmaking community.
A fitting finale with Anora!
The event wrapped up with the South Asia premiere of Sean Baker’s Anora, perfectly capping off an event filled with cinematic creativity and enthusiasm. Featuring 20 world premieres, over 25 Asia premieres, and 35 South Asia premieres, MAMI 2024 once again solidified its role as a key stage for global cinema and a nurturing ground for local talent.
