Thane Creek Bridge News: Mumbai-bound section to open by February; details inside
A major infrastructure upgrade is set to transform connectivity between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The Mumbai-bound section of the Thane Creek Bridge (also known as Vashi Bridge) is slated to open by February, expanding the corridor to a total of 12 lanes.
This follows the October 13 opening of the Navi Mumbai-bound section, with final works like crash barriers, lighting, and electrical systems nearing completion. Once operational, the bridge will ensure smoother commutes for the 64,300 vehicles that traverse the route daily.
Developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) as part of a ₹559 crore project, the twin bridges flank the existing 1997 structure to address rising traffic from Navi Mumbai’s rapid expansion. Meanwhile, the iconic 1973 bridge, long closed to regular traffic for safety reasons, remains a nostalgic Bollywood filming spot.
With this development, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s connectivity will see a major boost, reducing congestion and easing travel between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
