Kanpur Metro to have QR code-based ticketing system

Provisioning rapid commute, Kanpur Metro is all set to begin its services in the city soon. Furthering the agenda of digitisation, Kanpur Metro will be using a modern QR-code based ticketing system initially instead of the usual token vending machines. Apart from this, passengers will also be able to travel in this upcoming metro of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation by using Smart Cards as well.

Kanpur Police launches 48-hour traffic diversion trial due to Nayaganj metro station construction

Traffic in Kanpur will remain affected for the next 48 hours as the city police has launched a diversion trial plan in wake of the construction of an underground metro station at Nayaganj. Various pockets in the vicinity have recorded intense landlocks, with reports of huge jams coming from Phool Bagh and Narona intersections in Kanpur.

The diversion will remain in action till 7 PM on December 12 and Kanpurites are advised to keep a check on updates by UP Metro or Traffic Police to avoid congested roads and steer towards alternative routes.

Kanpur Metro likely to be operational from December 28

The first phase of Kanpur Metro is set to open for the public on December 28 this year. Provisioning rapid commute, the first-ever service will operate on a 9-km-long Priority Corridor, stretching from IIT Kanpur to Motijheel in the city. This track will map through 8 overhead stations including IIT, Kalyanpur, SPM Hospital, University, Gurudev, Geeta Nagar, Rawatpur, Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital and Motijheel. Reportedly, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation is running final investigations and preparations to facilitate the same.

Kanpur Metro likely to become operational by the end of December 2021

With the progressive trial runs, Kanpur Metro is likely to hit the tracks by the end of December 2021. As per reports, the first phase operations will begin on the 9-km-long priority corridor here. A total of 8 trains have been allocated to the elevated route, where 6 rakes will actively ply on the elevated corridor. Notably, the 2 additional trains will be parked at the depot and plugged in for commercial use during repairs and emergencies.

UPMRC successfully completes the maiden run of Kanpur Metro!

Giving a major boost to public transportation in the city, Kanpur Metro is now a reality. UPMRC has successfully completed the maiden run of Kanpur Metro today, on the priority corridor and the service will soon open for the general public now. Reportedly, the event was officially flagged off by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at the Kanpur Metro Depot in Government Polytechnic. Besides building a network of seamless connectivity, this metro initiation move is pegged to ease vehicular congestion in the city, while upscaling development in the region at the same time.
