Central Railway to start 12 AC local trains on Mumbai's Harbour line from Dec 1

Starting Wednesday, 12 new air-conditioned suburban trains will be added to the existing local fleet of Central Railways on the Harbour line. Reportedly, these additional services will ply along Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Panvel railway station route. According to the General Manager of Central Railways, the first AC train service will start from Vashi to CMST, in the morning.

Mumbai local trains to operate at 100% capacity from today!

After running restricted operations for over a year, Mumbai's local train services are all set to resume with 100% seating capacity from today. This is being done in order to account for the increased flow of commuters on the trains. Till now, the Central and Western Railways had been operating with 1,702 and 1,304 services respectively, which account for 95.75% of their total capacity. Today onwards, this number will go up to 1,774 in the CR division and 1,367 in WR, thus making complete use of the total capacity on the two lines.

Students below the age of 18 allowed to travel in Mumbai local trains

Ushering in relief for students, the Government of Maharashtra has decided to let students under the age of 18 avail of various services in the state. As per the order issued on Thursday, students that are not eligible for vaccination will now be allowed to travel on the local trains. Apart from this, access to other facilities like entry into malls, multiplexes, temples (in certain districts), auditoriums, restaurants and wedding halls have also been granted to those who cannot take the COVID-19 vaccine yet.

Mumbai Local-trains prepare to reopen full-services on January 29; official state orders awaited

Following a meeting chaired by the Maharashtra Chief Minister and top-bureaucrats, on the reopening of local trains for all commuters, the Western Railways has begun to chalk out a plan to resume full-services, with 1,367 transits in a day by January 29. Though the railway board is still awaiting the official orders, various ways to reopen locals for all are being worked upon, wherein permissions to all commuters may be granted soon, during non-peak hours initially.

Passengers having long-distance rail tickets permitted to travel in Mumbai locals

The Ministry of Railways, on Thursday, announced that all passengers in possession of a valid and confirmed long-distance rail ticket can now travel in Mumbai locals. This ease has been granted to the travellers based on a proposal which was drafted regarding the same on December 15 by the Maharashtra government. Now passengers can easily reach their boarding station, anywhere in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, via the suburban train network.
